GRED 518 Computers in Education

Class Roster and Bios

Spring 1999

Hi there! My name is Heather Baker. Im an Elementary Graduate student trying to finish up her masters so that I wont have to go to college for a very long time! Im a basically normal person I have a dog cat and the semi-normal family from a very small town near Lake George (my town only has one block!). Well that seems to be the jist about myself, see you all in class!!!
Hello, My name is Anita Bessette.  I teach Physical Education at Gouverneur Central School.  I have been teaching at Gouverneur for two years and a haft.  I coach modified softball at Gouverneur and varsity soccer at Herman-Dekalb.  During my first few years out of collage, I was an assistant coach for St. Lawrence University Women’s Hockey team.  I graduated form St. Lawrence in 1995, with a major in Physical Education and minor in Biology.  I am working on a master in Health Education, which I hope to attain through Potsdam and Ithica.  During collage, I participated on the Women’s Soccer and Hockey teams.  I also played hockey on the National Team from 1991-1993.  Now, that I’m out of collage, I still enjoy sports.  I play hockey and soccer for Canadian teams during the winter and soccer and softball on local team during the summer.  Beside team sports, I enjoy rock climbing and camping.
I am a native of the North Country; I grow up in Canton.  This past September, I brought a house of my own in the country out side of Canton.  After collage, I moved to Long Island, where I was a personal trainer at a health club.  The stay out of the North Country was short lived; I moved back home nine months later.  It did not take me long to figure out that I preferred the country to the city.  My family, Four sister and two brothers, has remained local for the most part.  My youngest sister lives in Ohio where she is going to graduate school at Ohio State.  The remaining siblings live here in the North Country and my parents own a farm out side of Canton.
My outlook on this course is not bright.  I do not know a lot about computers.  To put it in Tony's terms, I was one of the skiers who didn’t even get out of the water in Wednesdays class, never the less fall down at get back up.  I have always been a student who knows enough about computer to write the paper, run it off, and that’s about it.  I don’t export the net or work on my computer skill on my free time.  So, this is a warning, I will be asking a lot of question and for a lot of help.
Hi!  My name is Stephen Colon.  I am a 23 year-old graduate from Oneonta State.  I received my B.S. in meteorology and am now pursuing my masters in education in the MST Earth Science program.  While at Oneonta I was an RA and Summer Orientation leader. I am from Amsterdam, NY. I spent my last semester bumming around Puerto Rico.  I am not fluent with computers by any means, but I'm learning. However I would like to make computers an integral part of my classroom.

Hi My name is Patti Dabiew. I am married with 4 children, ranging from 16 to 24 years of age.  My undergrad work was in Sociology and I currently work in an Adult Day Care Program. This program is for adults with developmental disabilities of one type or another.  I am in  the ITMM program and hope to be done in Dec. I have limited experience working with computers, however; I do enjoy working with them.
Jessica Donnelly - I teach English 9 and AP English at Massena Central High School.  I am also the advisor for the Drama club which puts on three productions a year.     I am currently on leave to be with my 2 month old son, James.
Hello Everyone!  My name is Julie Duchesne and I am an international student completing a MST (elementary level) here at Potsdam and will hopefully be graduating in December of '99.  Before being accepted into this program, I was a student at the University of Ottawa and have attained a B.A. in psychology and also a B.A. in English.  After working with behavioral problem children, I decided to become a teacher in hopes to help
children not only succeed academically but socially as well.
Born and raised in "stinky town" Cornwall, my family is French Canadian and consists of my parents (Linda and Ron), my younger sister Shelley, my daughter Amber and myself. Oh yes! and our dog Sandy...  In my spare time,
which I don't seem to get enough of, I enjoy going to the gym and reading any classic piece of literature - I have an extreme love for anything which Shakespeare has written!  After Shakespeare, my second obsession/passion would have to be... HOCKEY of course!  What else would you expect from a Canadian eh?!
John Durr - I'm twenty-three years old and I am an MST student at Potsdam.  I'm originally from Ogdensburg, New York.  I graduated from SUNY Oswego in August of 1998.  I hope to do my student teaching next fall.

Hi my name is Valerie Haas. This is my first semester as a graduate student in the MST program as an elementary education major. I graduated in 1996 from SUNY Potsdam with a B.A. in Anthropology. After graduation my husband and I did some travelling and with the birth of our son, Max in 1998, decided to live in the area. I have always wanted to be a teacher so I signed up for the MST program and here I am.
My name is Brian Keilman and I am a senior at potsdam.  I am finishing up my undergrad work and taking this course to get a head start on my grad work. My majors are psychology and elementary education.

Hello my name is Megan Narenkivicius. I'm originally from Ogdensburg, however upon graduation from OFA in 1991, I moved to the state of Massachusetts and lived there for seven years. During that time I received my BA in psychology and became a liscensed massage therapist. Just this past summer, I moved back to the North Country with my boyfriend Nick and our dog Clancy, and am currently enrolled in my second semester of the MST (elementary) program.
Mike Oneil - I have just finished student teaching last semester at Hammond Central and at Lincoln Elementary School for my elementary education requirement.  I am currently taking 12 credit hours enrolling in Reading for my Graduate degree. During the day, I am substitute teaching at the area schools most of the time.  I plan on getting an elementary job next year in the Rochester area. I will complete my Graduate degree within the next 5 years.  I will live up here in the summer time to take classes at Potsdam.
I am really looking forward to take this class.  I hope that I learn alot about computers because this is my first class I have had working with them.  When I was in high school, there wasn't even a computer class offered.  I hope to get a 4.0 in this class this semester even though computers are foreign to me.  But, I will work really hard to become somewhat familiar with them.
Hi, my name is Lisa Parker. I received a bachelors degree in 1997 from Potsdam State majoring in biology with a minor in chemistry. I am currently enrolled in the M.S.T. program. Upon completion I will be certified to teach biology in the secondary school setting.
Nellie Puglisi - I'm 22 and this is my last semester before being tossed to the wolves in the real world.  I am looking for employment for next school year as a secondary mathematics teacher.  I would love to work in the
Adirondacks.  While in school I was lucky to be a part of the womans soccer and lacrosse teams, a local sorority (ADK), and a trip leader in the Potsdam outdoor ed. department.  I take these classes as a part of self torture because I know if I don't some computer down the line will haunt me when I don't know how to use it.

Howdy,  my name is Dan Rose.  I am a native of northern New York and have recently joined SUNY Potsdam both as a graduate student in the MST program and as a proffessional.  For the past two years I have served as
the assistant men's soccer coach and was just appointed a new position as an Admissions/Financial Aid Counselor.  Although I like my current jobs very much, I am equally excited to finish my masters and begin the battle for my Doctorate.
Hi, My name is Danielle Shadle.  I am 26 years old and from Massena, NY. I am happy to say that I am a fifth grade teacher at the St. Regis Mohawk School.  This is my second year teaching and I really enjoy the challenges and rewards that come my way.  I also enjoy many outdoor and indoor activities such as volleyball, soccer, ceramics, and playing on my computer.
Jeff Stein - Born Jan. 16th, 1974 in San Francisco, CA.  Raised from age 2 on a dairy farm just outside Morley, NY.  Attended Madrid-Waddington Central Schools until graduation in 1992.  Completed undergraduate work at Oswego State University and graduated in 1996 with a BS in Secondary Education concentrating in social studies.  Completed one full time semester of graduate work at Oswego in 1997.  Accepted a position as a high school teacher in Texas and moved.  Spent the '97-'98 school year living in Galveston, TX and teaching 10th and 12th grades at La Marque high school. Returned to northern NY in June of '98 and was hired as a Residence
Director at SUNY Potsdam.  My future plans include: not working this summer for the first time since I was 16,  buying a new car, returning to teaching, and eventually an early retirement courtesy of my high yield investments.
My name is Marilyn Wade.  I am in the MST Elementary program.  I just started my studies this semester.  I have have my HBK in Kinesiology from Lakehead University.  I am presently living in Cornwall, Ontario and traveling back and forth across the boarder.
My name is Mary Wells.  I am a graduate in the ElEd MST program here at SUC Potsdam.  I consider myself to be a professional student in that I love learning.  I am a native of Watertown, NY.  I moved back after seven years in Colorado (Breckenridge in Summit County, Boulder, and Denver) in 1997.
I decided to pursue becoming a teacher after subbing for the Jefferson/Lewis Counties B.O.C.E.S.  I am on the one year crash program and should be finishing this year.  Educationally, I am considering continuing on with a master's in Special Education; however, at this moment in life I may go for work in regular education and get back into a "normal" (if there is such a thing) routine.  I am also very interested in Brain Gym and Kinesiology.
My favorite ways to pass time are sailing or racing sailboats, swimming, skiing (Yup, water again--just frozen), reading, listening to music (all kinds from Classical to Rock), and being with friends and family.  I am looking forward to getting to know everyone and learning more about computer technology.
