Credit: Three semester hours

Time: 5:00 - 8:25 Monday through Thursday, May [24,25,26,31] [June 1,2,6,7,8, 9,13]

Location: Satterlee 300

Purpose: This course provides an introduction to various computer applications in education, including word processing, database, spreadsheet, presentation, and multimedia software.

Textbook: Although there is no textbook requirement, there are technology requirements (see digital storage below).

Requirements:

Homework: There will be 7 homework assignments for this course.  Each assignment will serve to reinforce your knowledge of the application of media and technology to instructional tasks.  For these assignments you are encouraged to acquire/develop materials which you may use in your classroom or instructional setting.  Requirements for individual assignments will be given in class.

Lesson: Students will negotiate a topic for the final lesson.  The materials to be handed in include a completed lesson plan, instructional materials, and an in class computer activity created with a multimedia authoring tool.

Attendance: Daily attendance is required of all students, as the content of daily class discussions can not be obtained in any other way than attending class. Class participation constitutes a significant portion of the overall course grade, and class attendance is a prerequisite for class participation.

Digital Storage: It is strongly recommended that each student purchase a USB Pendrive, with at least 64mb capacity. Additionally, 2x100mb zip discs are also recommended.

Computer Use: As a class we will be using the Macintosh computers in Satterlee 300 and the Windows computers in Satterlee 325.  Students will be required to work with these computers or similar computers outside of class to complete homework assignments and projects.

Plagiarism: This course adheres to the College's policy on academic honesty as stated in the Undergraduate Catalog. Plagiarism may lead to grade reduction, course failure, or expulsion from school.

Class Participation: 25 points
