- Develop a personalized, detailed skills inventory that describes your current skill set. This is an expanded version of what you would typically see on a resume. Organize this into categories (such as hardware, 3-D design, Web Development, Office Software, Networking, etc...
- For skills identified, provide information about what relative level you consider yourself to be in each (novice, beginner, intermedia, advanced, expert).
- For skills identifiied, provide a 1, 3, 5, and 10 year professional development plan for maintaining and upgrading your skills. Will you take continuing education courses, take online courses, self-teach, learn on the job, etc...
- Conduct a extensive job search in which you identify current job positions and the skills and requirements for them. Pay attention to: Location, Salary, Experience, Skills, Degree Requirements. Do not limit yourself to jobs in the United States. Use multiple sources, including job web sites, journal articles, books, and especially personal conversations and communications with people occupying the positions you are seeking.
Map your skills (current, 1 year, 3 years, 5 years, 10 years) to the potential jobs you would take.

BE THOROUGH
