Organization of the Division by the vote of members of AECT assembled in Chicago Illinois October 2004

Introduction:

The PowerPoint slideshow: "Making History, The Division of Multimedia Production: The Gem of AECT" was shown by Chuck Stoddard to those present. It will be made available to the entire membership through the Division Website (http://www.sunwestassociates.org/index.htm) following the conference.

The current mission statement was discussed, and it was concluded that we need to revise the mission statement before the next round of proposals are due in order to make as the proposal process as clear and transparent as possible to potential presenters. Words and phrases such as: production, multimedia, games, video production, desktop publishing, supportive learning environments, and web development were suggested as possibilities to be included in the mission statement. More "word tinning" of the Mission will be completed over the Division Discussion List. Each member needs to register for the discussion list at http://www.AECT.org after signing into your membership profile.

Election Results were shared:

Other Ideas to Build the Division::

-The Multimedia Production Division could serve as a clearinghouse for aesthetic guidelines for presentations at AECT as a service to members. Other enhancements of existing materials, including "better practice" techniques and Novice Level Principles for those doing basic production were also offered as a potential service of the MM Division. A set of web guidelines, as well as one on one consultation with Division members were offered as ways of accomplishing this.

-Interest was also expressed in helping teachers/students who need advice in their efforts at creating multimedia at their school, especially those interested in the International Student Media Festival (ISMF). Similar to the notion above, a set of web guidelines, as well as one on one consultation with Division members were offered as ways of accomplishing this.

The idea of having a few regular sponsored sessions for ISMF folks to present at as a way of "cross-pollinating" between the ISMF folks and the AECT membership was brought up.
