be more.
Special Equipment/Facilities Needed: None
Subject Area: Science/Chemistry
Objectives: Tutorial that reinforces general
science courses.
Brief Description: Reinforces previously
covered chemistry lessons.
Entry Capabilities Required: Secondary
Rating: (1-5)
Relevance to objectives: 5-Since it is
a self paced tutorial program, the student may proceed the review lessons
as quickly or as slowly as desired. Each question is compiled based
upon previously learned material and the student cannot proceed until successfully
answering the questions.
Provides practice of relevant skills:
5-Absolutely provides repetitive (drilling) of chemistry periodic table
which is a prerequisite to further learning.
Likely to arouse/maintain interest: 4-Only
if student is interested in the subject.
Likely to be comprehended clearly: 5-Yes
since each question is a precept to the following.
Technical quality (durable, attractive): 5-A
very well organized, both with factual information, and style/artistic
quality of presentation.
Game: Winning dependent on player actions (rather
than chance): 3-This is not programmed to
be a game, but the lessons do reinforce the student by encouraging correct
responses.
Simulation: Validity of game model (realistic,
accurate depiction): 3-The simulation is relevant
to scientific equations.
Evidence of effectiveness (e.g. field-test results):
Received top rating from ZDNet
Clear directions for play: 5-Very simple
directions. If student is not answering correctly, the moderator
instructs the student to go back and review.
Effectiveness of debriefing: 5-Encourages
the student when lessons are successfully completed and since the program
is based upon previous precepts learning various science subjects should
transpire.
Strong Points: Self
paced program that allows the student to proceed as quickly as possible
without bypassing the necessary information that the student needs to fully
grasp the subject matter. The student cannot proceed to the next
lesson until mastering the previous.
Weak Points: Subject
matter is undeniably boring, but not for students who enjoy science.
