Number of Players:One, may have multiple
creators, drawers.
Special Equipment/Facilities Needed: none
Subject Area: Art, Language Arts
Objectives: To learn color sense, drawing
in perspective, just being creative. Language can also be incorporated
into the drawings. Stories can be created.
Brief Description: A very descriptive
drawing palette that includes many clip art.
Entry Capabilities Required: None
Rating: (1-5)
Relevance to objectives: 5 Direct
correlation between the student participation, and what is being
learned.
Provides practice of relevant skills:
5 The student can create drawings in many formats, and easily create
many different drawings in any one setting.
Likely to arouse/maintain interest: 4
I think the teacher must have some participation, to give direction and
relevance to the drawing being created.
Likely to be comprehended clearly: 5
There are step-by-step directions for each drawing process."Maggie" is
the helping character.
Technical quality (durable, attractive):
5 You can go back and forth, in and out, very flashy yet enjoyable
and useful.
Game: Winning dependent on player actions (rather
than chance): 5 The "winning" drawing
is completely created by the individual, even though you can pick certain
clip art, and backgrounds, the choice is with the participant.
Simulation: Validity of game model (realistic,
accurate depiction):3 There is a simulation
in a specific clip art category. A cartoon character or animal can
move it's way across the screen interesting. There are also sounds,
which are interesting. Realistic???
Evidence of effectiveness (e.g. field-test results):
I did not test out on a student.
Clear directions for play: 5 Help
along the way.
Effectiveness of debriefing:No
debriefing within the software.
Strong Points:
It mentions, the characters--McZee and Maggie are only the "spark" in the
adventure. Along with the software, "Creativity Stretchers" are enclosed.
These are cards which help give direction to lesson plans, also give meaning
to the product the student creates.
Weak Points:
Students could become bored with lack of direction, or always use the clip
art without any manipulation of the image.
