Playing Time: The playing time can be as long as you want and as many times as you want.  The timer can be set from 3 seconds to unlimited time.
Date: May 20, 1999
Cost: Could not find.
Number of Players: One child can play alone or two children can play against one another.  Except in math detective only one person can play at a time.
Special Equipment/Facilities Needed: Mac 3.0 or higher
Subject Area: Math
Objectives: Math Stars meets the needs of children looking to practice their beginning math skills.  Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division are all included in this program.  The more advanced student can add negative numbers and even solve for x.  Students can play solo or they can go head-to-head.  The child who answers ten out of ten correctly within the allotted time receives a gold star.
Brief Description: There are two seperate games that can be played.  The first game can be played solo or against an opponent.  Math equations come up on the screen either vertically or horizontally, whatever your preference, and the child has to answer the problem within a certain amount of time(preset on the timer), or they can take as long as they want.  Whomever wins receives a gold star under their name.  The math detective game can only be played solo.  A math problem comes up on the screen and the child has to find the multiple answers in the grid of numbers, again the timer is optional.
Entry Capabilities Required: Basic remedial math skills are required along with knowledge of numberpad.

Rating: (1-5)

Strong Points: The program is very effective for children to practice there basic math skills on.
Weak Points: This program lacks in the entertainment area.  I can see where a child would become bored quickly.  Young children like animation and if this program had more it would be more entising for children.
