Rating: (1-5)
Relevance to objectives: (5) The game
is full of problems and puzzles that aren't to difficult to solve for the
all the age groups. My son is 4 and my daughter is 7. The both
find the game fun and their ages still leave room for exploration methods
within the game. The game continously interesting and still meets and exceeds
the objectives.
Provides practice of relevant skills:
(5) Always allows for practice of both computer and problem solving
skills.
The children are always involved in a puzzle that Putt-Putt assists the
child with through hints if they can't figure it out on their own.
My son has some difficulty solving all the problems but as time goes on
Putt-Putt prompts him to the solution through hints.
Likely to arouse/maintain interest: (5)
The game has real advantages for given the age group of the programs intended
audience. My little boy and girl loves the game. On a rainy
or cold day they request Putt-Putt.
Likely to be comprehended clearly: (5)
The puzzles vary in difficulty but Putt-Putt is always there to assist.
The children laugh and are excited when they solve the problem. A
reward is usually there for them when they solve the puzzle singing dancing
animals etc.
Technical quality (durable, attractive):
(5) The game uses Putt-Putt's dashboard as the interface between the children.
It is simple and well presented; my four year-old was using the game in
no time. We leave the two of them alone and the only time they need us
is when they want to show us some of the excellent animation after they
solve a problem.
Game: Winning dependent on player actions (rather
than chance): (5) The kids have
a goal to win by finding all the babies. Hidden within these goals
are the problem solving objectives of the game. With Putt-Putt's
assistance winning the game is easy for all age groups.
Simulation: Validity of game model (realistic,
accurate depiction): (5) The game is
full of detailed fun. Almost every object you double click on provides
entertainment and amusement for the children. Within the game itself
are all kinds hidden mysteries and games to play as well. The animals talk
and sing, ice move on the pond the mother animals try to help the
children.
The games audio visual effects are great. The game is well done
professionally.
Evidence of effectiveness (e.g. field-test
results):
(5) My children both love the game my 4 year old is challenged much more
than my seven year old. My seven year old still enjoys the game but
the challenges are not difficult.
Clear directions for play:
The game is driven through the dash board and the mouse. The game
gives motivation through interaction with Putt-Putt. The game provides
directions and hints to the child when having difficulty.
Effectiveness of debriefing:
(5) I'm not an expert but for the price and the evidence my children
have produced I recommend this game for kids from 3-7. The game is
well worth it as a father and for my children.
Strong Points:
Well worth the price. Provides excellent entertainment while learning
problem solving techniques. Excellent audio visual effects geared
directly at the target age group.
Weak Points:
Not many. The audio visual has minimal sluggish areas. Although
it does not hinder the quality much for the price.
