Rating: (1-5)
Relevance to objectives: 5- I feel that
this software really does accomplish what it set out to do. I think
that it really does help to teach children how to tell time, how to count
money, and it also helps them to add and subtract.
Provides practice of relevant skills:
5- The child acquires a lot of practice on the above skills as they play
this game. In order for you to continue on to the next level, you
have to answer a certain amount of questions in each area of the level
so that you can acquire the special tools, such as the pick.
Likely to arouse/maintain interest:5-
I found this game to be very interesting. I had no troubles maintaining
interest in it. The game had elves constantly moving around so you
never knew when one was bound to pop up.
Likely to be comprehended clearly: 5-
This game is very easy to comprehend, the computer tells you what to do
if you any questions. At each station, you are greeted by an elf
who verbally tells you what to do there, and the instructions are also
written on the screen.
Technical quality (durable, attractive):
5- I thought this game was very attractive, it had good graphics and it
kept the player interested in what was going on.
Game: Winning dependent on player actions (rather
than chance):5- The winning is dependent on
the player's actions. You cannot continue up the mountain unless
you answer a certain number of questions. You need to do this so
you can acquire the certain amount of tools that you will need to go
on.
Simulation: Validity of game model (realistic,
accurate depiction):5- I thought this game
was as realistic as you can get with elves. Everything had accurate
depiction, the snowy mountain was white, etc.
Evidence of effectiveness (e.g. field-test
results):
NA
Clear directions for play: 5- There are
very clear directions on how to play. At each station, there is an
elf who orally tells you what to do. The directions are also written
on the screen for you.
Effectiveness of debriefing:5-
I felt this game was very effective at debriefing. At the end of
each level you got a prize.
Strong Points:
I found this game to be a lot of fun. I thought it did a very good
job at keeping one's attention, which is especially important for young
children. I was also very impressed when the elves told you what
to do. They kept repeating the directions until you were ready to
play, and clicked the mouse to go on. I also thought it was very
good that at the end of each level, you got a prize, it gave me a sense
of accomplishment, which I feel is also very important.
