NERM-2006 Meeting, Binghamton, NY                                                        Department of Chemistry

Text Box: Presidential scholar Matthew Hudson (class of 2006) undertook research with Prof. Martin Walker on a new chemical process for making esters, organic compounds commonly used in pharmaceuticals and fragrances.  Dr. Walker presented this work to the North East Regional Meeting (NERM) of the American Chemical Society (ACS) in Binghamton, NY on Saturday, October 7.  Matthew, now a graduate student at Syracuse University, had earlier presented his work at the National Meeting of the ACS in Atlanta, GA (see picture).

Text Box: Dr. Walker, in his capacity as chair of the Northern New York section of the ACS, presented to the regional ACS officers a bid for holding the NERM conference to SUNY Potsdam in June, 2010.  The bid was unanimously approved, so Dr. Walker and other chemistry faculty can expect to be very busy in 3-4 years time!
