F401: Simulation and Gaming
Topic #2: Multiplayer Gaming
This goes back to the earlies of games. See our graveyard to find some
of them. Also, for the latest in multiplayer onlin gaming, visit the
Happy Puppy web site's section on online gaming at : www.happypuppy.com
The game review for this topic should emphasize
the following:
- List publishers, main authors
- Background of company who produced the game (this can be brief)
- Date game came out, technology of the time
- Screen Shots/pictures of the game
- A photocopy of the quick reference guide in lieu of reproducing all
of the commands if the interface is complex (ie. Mechwarrior 2)
- Reflection of where the historical roots of this game came from (in
the case of doom it would be castle Wolfenestein, then Wolf 3D, then Doom,
in the case of Mario Brothers, you would go back to Donkey Kong, in the
case of Tekken 2, you should probably refer to Street Fighter and Mortal
Kombat as the originals, in the case of the enhanced Oregon Trail 2, refer
to the original Oregon trail, etc...)
- And of course, a good description of the game itself. In the case of
complex games, highlight the key points that define the game, rather than
go into a lot of detail in any one part of the game.
The game design for this topic should emphasize
the following:
- Spellchecked/Grammar Checked
- Proper format with readable fonts, headings,
and subheadings (I don't care how you do it, just make it consistent).
- An overview of the game
- A description of the story behind the game
- A description of the interface, include ilustrated
visuals (storyboards)
- What environment is this to be played multiplayer
(ie. Local area network, internet, classroom, modem, direct serial link,
etc . .. ) How do players interact with the game AND other players in multiplayer
mode? Does the player affect the environment so others can see it, is there
direct interaction, both? How does this differ or remain similar to other
multiplayer games. Be creative here, as this is the MOST IMPORTANT part
of the report.
