ITED 621 - Multimedia Authoring and Scripting

Time: 5:30-8:45 PM Tuesday through November 21

Purpose: The goal of this course is to help students acquire a working knowledge of the Hyperstudio authoring environment for use as an instructional tool.  Students will learn the structure of the Hyperstudio authoring environment and the syntax of the HyperLogo language as it is applied to the development of instructional software.  Emphasis will be placed on understanding the problem solving skills associated with programming and the development of a useful instructional program appropriate to the student's interests.

Textbooks: While there are no specific textbooks required, it is strongly recommended that each student purchase a copy of the full working version of the software application program Hyperstudio.  Orders can be placed at the college store, or placed directly with Hyperstudio at

Homework: There will be 3 homework assignments for this course.
Each activity provides you with an opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge of the material covered in class.  The first stack will emphasize presentation of material, the second will focus on interaction with the user (hide/show), and a third will iinvolve more sophisticated scripting (snap-to-it).  Each Hyperstudio stack should contain at least ten cards.  One of the purposes for these assignments is to encourage you to develop materials which you may use in your instructional setting.  Requirements for individual assignments will be given in class.

Instructional Project: Students will negotiate a topic for the instructional project, which should incorporate skills learned from the first 3 assignments.  The materials to be completed for the instructional project include a lesson plan and an in class computer activity created with a multimedia authoring tool (i.e.. HyperCard or Hyperstudio) of not less than 25 cards.  Resources from the assignment stacks may be incorporated into this project.

Attendance: Daily attendance is required of all students.

Digital Storage: Each student is required to have one 3.5" high density diskette for communication and two100mb Zip cartridges for storage of files.

Plagiarism: This course adheres to the College's policy on academic honesty as stated in the Undergraduate Catalog. Plagiarism may lead to grade reduction, course failure, or expulsion from school.
